Overview

The Graduate School offers a webinar-based 36-unit trimester MS degree program in Applied Breathing Sciences. The program is designed to be completed in one year, taking 12 units per trimester, but may also be taken on a part time basis.

The program consists of 25 one-unit courses: 7 Physiology courses, 8 Psychology courses, 8 Intervention courses, and 2 Business courses. It also includes 5 units of Proseminars, 4 units of Service Practicums to be completed at your own location, and 2 units of Business Practicum consisting of the execution of a business plan formulated by you while taking the business courses. All courses are conveniently held on weekends.

It is estimated that 10 to 25 percent of the US population suffer the debilitating consequences of dysfunctional breathing habits, a serious problem only superficially addressed by the professional community. Until now, there has been nowhere to go for professionals who want comprehensive training in the various sciences relevant to addressing this enormous problem: physiology, biochemistry, neuroscience, psychology, behavioral science, counseling, and technology.

Learn about the physiology and the psychology of breathing from our faculty, a diverse group of 15 top experts in their fields. Learn and interact with them from your own location, as they present “live” from around the world while sitting in their own offices. Become an interdisciplinary expert, well versed in the relevant sciences. Learn how to integrate breathing services into your practice, from both professional and business perspectives. Or, learn how to start an independent (or parallel) business that provides breathing learning services to clients.

Learn to identify dysfunctional breathing habits that disturb physiology and trigger symptoms and deficits that seriously compromise health and performance. Learn how to identify the factors that trigger and sustain these dysfunctional habits. Help clients to unlearn these habits and to learn new ones that are in concert with healthy self-regulation. Students are colleague professionals from around the world; their own success with clients is the realization of our own mission.

Graduates also earn a Behavioral Biofeedback Certificate that documents their having learned to implement biofeedback applications in the context of behavior therapy, a Certificate that may also be independently earned by others not participating in the MS program (12 units, see above).

The School offers many of its MS degree courses, and others, on a Continuing Education basis for meeting professional education requirements (see CE heading above).
